WLV10. Derek Smith - Pacemaker
Pacemaker is a sound exploration of my own experience with having a cardiac pacemaker. The tracks are built on clocking sources and sounds, pulses, recordings of my heartbeat, pacemaker testing equipment, alarm clocks, the rhythm of walking, frequently overlapping to understand what it means to live with an extra mechanical internal rhythm. The album also attempts to replicate experiences with Malignant Vasovagal Syndrome, a condition that causes unpredictable and severe episodes of syncope, seizures, and asystole (periods of no heartbeat).

WLV11. Course Correct - In A Second It Won't Be There
Alec Ciesla - modular synthesizer, guitar, and rabbit sounds
As I was recording the track 'Pol', the first track made for this album, I wrote the following poem which ended up guiding the rest of the writing process:
'to focus on it
towards a thousand
beings
of light
on lightness
on and on'
I was thinking about the part of my family that came from Poland. Reflecting on their lives from the 1910's thru the 1960's, I don't know if these thoughts pre-dated the recordings or happened because of them, but as I was making these pieces I found myself focusing on their experiences. I have only met three people from this side of my family.
The album is designed to be folded in half. In other words, tracks 1 and 6, 2 and 5, and 3 and 4 are the most similar to each other in length and tone and emotion. Track 4 is a recreation of a live set performed online for a rabbit rescue benefit compilation Derek and Joe and myself organized.
